Description
This is the listing for the entire set of grade 1-8 revised and reprinted (vintage style) readers in the Canadian Reading Development Series.
CRDS Readers: hardcover, one per grade (for grades 2-8; 3 books for the grade 1 year). Literature selections have traditional Canadian spelling and there is a strong focus on Canadian history and Canadian geography! A variety of genres are represented in grades 4-8 (e.g. poetry, script, historical biography, fiction, etc.).
These were revised and reprinted for use in Old Order/Amish Mennonite schools whose first year of reading is grade 1. We would actually recommend 1 or 2 of the grade 1 level readers for the kindergarten year(s) since they are pre-primers and primers. It’s Story Time could be used in the SK or the grade 1 year. For children who have gone through “kindergarten” but cannot read simple sentences well yet, you should begin with Off to School for a solid foundation. Plan to finish reading Off to School by Christmas break.
Other Notes: The upper grade levels 6-8 are quite academic. Struggling students might consider going through them more slowly and completing the series in grades 9-10+.
To see sample pages of these readers, please see their individual listings.
Note: There are also inexpensive reprinted consumable vocabulary and reading comprehension workbooks which can go along with each of the readers in this series. However some people just use the readers as a reader, without the workbooks. The workbooks are intended for those who desire a more traditional pencil-and-paper reading program.
