Description
With a blank presentation board and some envelopes, you can use this resource to help you teach a creative writing program that is so easy to use for all primary grade levels. Topics include: Steps for Writing, Ordering Sentences, Writing Paragraphs, Lists, Letters and Notes, About My Family and Friends, About Me, Writing Directions, Scrapbook Captions and Signs, Daily Writing (reports, etc.), Pattern Stories, Add-On Stories, Circle Stories, Stories with a Lesson, Mystery Stories. Also included are 40 weeks of journal topics (3 or more starters per week based on one weekly theme) and a helpful list of “picture story” ideas. This is the original edition paper version. It includes full-colour headings to cut out and paste on your presentation board. There are also teaching ideas and guidance plus some assignment cards to cut out and put in your envelope pockets. 35 pages This was developed to help our reluctant writer (a hands-on learner) to enjoy writing lessons…and she and her siblings did! Even our toddler loved to sit behind the board when it was set up on the floor and pretend it was a “house”! It was easy to store by folding it up and sliding it between furniture. And it was easy to pull out – by the students. So this method became a great solution for fun learning in our household!
Q: At what grade, could a child who can read, be quite independent in doing writing assignments on various formats (e.g. lists, letters, stories, reports) with PSLC curriculum?
A: The first grade should have some guidance and modelled writing but during that year or in the beginning of the second grade, children could be independently going to the writing board, pulling out the next assignment, doing it, and then showing the family the finished result. They do not have to wait for “mom” to give the assignment or teach it by this point. Our children loved being able to do this on their own!
